The short version
We built BrollCollective to be fair, to creators and to the people who use our footage. That fairness starts with how we handle your data. We never sell it. We collect only what we need to run the platform, pay you, and keep your clips safe. If you want your account and data gone, you can delete it from your settings at any time.
What we collect
Only these four categories:
- Account info: your email address, handle, and (optionally) your display name and avatar.
- Clip metadata: the GPS location you pin to each clip, the duration, resolution, and the prompt you matched it to. The GPS point is stored to street-level precision; we never store your phone’s movement history.
- Payment info: processed entirely by Stripe. We store a Stripe customer id and a Connect account id for payouts, never your card number, bank details, or tax ID.
- Usage analytics: aggregated, cookie-free page views and upload success rates so we can fix broken flows quickly.
What we never collect
- Your continuous device location.
- Contents of your camera roll, contacts, or files.
- Precise IP addresses (we hash them with a rotating salt).
- Third-party ad-tracker identifiers.
Why we collect it
For exactly three reasons: to run the product (show you your clips, route your uploads), to pay you (the Stripe side), and to keep the platform trustworthy(ip hashing helps us spot abuse without tracking anyone). That’s it. If a feature doesn’t need data, it doesn’t get any.
Your GDPR & CCPA rights
You always have the right to:
- Access a copy of the data we hold on you.
- Correct anything that’s inaccurate.
- Delete your account. One button in Settings » Account. Your clips stay live only if you explicitly grant a perpetual license at upload time; otherwise they’re removed within 30 days.
- Port your data in a machine-readable format.
- Opt out of “sale” (CCPA), which is trivial because we don’t sell any data in the first place.
EU residents can also lodge a complaint with their national data protection authority. We’d rather you email us first. We’ll fix it.
Retention
Account info is kept for as long as your account is active. Analytics data is rolled up weekly and the row-level records are deleted after 30 days. Payment records are kept for 7 years as required by tax authorities.
Children
BrollCollective is not for anyone under 16. If we learn an under-16 account was created, we delete it and any associated uploads immediately.
